Important Information: During the month of September, students will be taking some tests that will help us to find their independent levels of learning. Students will complete F&P Running Records in order for us to find what level they are reading at independently. This will give us the information that we need to create small groups where students who read at/around the same level can practice the same skills/strategies at their level of understanding. We will also be performing AIMSWEB testing on-line. Students will read some short passages in order to test their reading fluency/vocabulary. These beginning of the year benchmarks are extremely important so we can keep track of their progress and intervene when/if necessary. Along with that, we can raise the challenge for students who may be progressing at a faster pace than their peers and provide them with the opportunities to work beyond the current classroom instruction.
Reminder: Please be sure your child is reading every evening for at least 30 minutes. It's not only part of their homework, but it also helps them to grow as strong readers. A little bit everyday can really make a huge impact on their overall reading ability.
